Gender discourse in participatory platforms
Advisor: Prof. Neta Kligler-Vilenchik

I am a Ph.D. candidate at the Department of Communication at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. I hold a Master’s degree in Communication from the Hebrew University and a Bachelor's degree in Cinema and Television from Tel-Aviv University, as well as professional experience with innovative technologies in the ed-tech and digital entertainment industry.

My dissertation, titled “The Gendered Culture War: Feminist Trends and Countertrends in Online Discussions of Popular Culture”, focuses on the clash between feminism and misogyny on digital platforms, and the way they are used by participants within discussions around popular content. Understanding culture as a terrain of struggle, the study examines audiences’ reactions to the competing trends on the levels of the industry, the contents, and other fans — and the struggle for visibility and influence between these trends, as well as broader competing demands for power.
